Udemy is more affordable & has more courses, but Edureka is the higher quality service

It is true that Udemy has more courses then Edureka, but that’s not the whole story.

Anyone can become a teacher on Udemy, which has helped it grow it’s course selection so high, but the quality and consistency of the courses on Edureka is much higher, since only vetted teachers can create courses. This isn’t to say that the courses on Udemy are low quality or wildly inconsistent, quite the opposite actually. But when forced to compare Udemy VS Edureka it is clear that Udemy has the quantity, while Edureka has the quality.

Again, don’t take this the wrong way, as both services have a large selection of high quality courses. The reality is that while these two services are similar, they both have different underlying philosophies about how to provide their services.

Udemy has more teachers, while Edureka only works with a few hand-selected teachers.
Udemy allows anyone who has knowledge (and can prove it and pass some basic screening requirements) to create and sell their own courses on the platform. This is great because some of the best teachers are those who spent years in their industry doing the hard work. This means you can expect to find some crazy high level teachers on Udemy, but since the barriers to entry are so low, you will also find courses that are not perfectly constructed or were created by a teacher who isn’t naturally talented at teaching. Luckily, good courses are the rule on Udemy, with bad courses being the rare exception.

Udemy allows you to pay per course, while Edureka is priced by the course. However, the thing that stands Edureka apart from other MOOCs is the amount of support you receive with each course. The instructors are happy to answer your questions, while support staff are there to assist before, during, and after you complete courses. There is no other MOOC which provides this level of hands-on instructor or support lead training.

Udemy covers virtually every topic imaginable, while Edureka has a strict focus on tech, including professional certification training, programming, data science and IT. This means if you’re looking for a creative art course or some personal improvement classes, you should look through Udemy, while if you’re pursuing a technical certificate or trying to learn a programming language, both services give you options.

Course Quality Review

Winner: Edureka
Edureka consistently has the higher quality courses.
Edureka has far fewer courses, but because of that, they’re able to put more time and effort into each one. Not only that, but you get direct access to your teacher during the course, as well as support staff who can help on whatever subject you’re studying. All in all, Edureka has the highest quality course experience you can find, which helps to justify the additional expense you pay to take their courses.

Udemy has a lot of high quality courses, but the quality varies from course to course. Since they have thousands of course creators, you can expect a diverse level of quality depending entirely on the course author. Most of the time, you will not have direct access to your teacher during the course-work. In a direct comparison between Udemy VS Edureka course quality, Edureka wins every time.

Course Selection Review

Winner: Udemy
Udemy has over 90% more courses than Edureka.
Since the barrier to creating a course for Udemy is much lower than Edureka, there are tens of thousands more courses available on Udemy then there are on Edureka. This also means that far more subjects are covered on Udemy than on Edureka.

Learning Platform Review

Winner: Edureka
Edureka’s courses are simple to use & designed logically. I never got lost.
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. Both Udemy and Edureka have good platforms, but I prefer the Edureka platform slightly more. Why? Because everything is easy to use and you have a live support agent there to assist if you get lost. Udemy’s platform is good too, but not quite as good as Edureka.

User Experience Review

Winner: Tied
Both Udemy and Edureka have a good user experience.
When we review the platform, we’re looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. Fortunately, both of these websites provide a great overall user experience. The user interfaces are logical enough, signing up is straight forward, support staff reply quickly and billing is exactly what you’d expect. Since neither platform sticks out from the other in these regards, this one is a tie in our books.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: Udemy
Udemy frequently runs big sales where you can learn a skill for barely any cash.
Edureka is inexpensive for a service that provides so much hands-on access to teachers and support staff, but if you’re just looking to learn a skill then Udemy offers a much bigger bang for your buck. Edureka does offer a high value proposition for those who learn best by having direct access to their teacher, but as a whole Udemy is much less expensive. In addition, Udemy routinely has massive sales where it is not uncommon to pick up a course for under $20 USD. So while both services offer tremendous value, when compared, Udemy is the superior value proposition for most learners.

Overall Review

Winner: Edureka
If you’re learning IT then Edureka makes it easiest.
While Edureka doesn’t focus on anything other than IT, it is clear that their service is top notch. I definitely recommend anyone who is serious about learning tech related skills, to consider Edureka first and foremost. That is not to say anything bad about Udemy, because their service is also pretty amazing. However, at the end of the day Edureka presents nothing but top-notch courses and allows you to have direct access to teachers and support, making it the superior learning platform in those regards. That’s why our choice in this head to head review is Edureka.

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both Udemy and Edureka are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

Comparing Udemy VS Edureka is tough, because it’s an apples to oranges type comparison. Sure, they’re both learning platforms, but they operate from a completely different underlying philosophy. If you’re studying tech and prefer talking to real humans about your questions, then there is no MOOC better than Edureka. On the otherhand, if you’re looking for the biggest selection of online courses, look no further than Udemy.
