Springboard is a learning platform focused on providing hands-on tutors, instructors, support, and other methods of direct communication to insure you actually learn the subject you’re studying. There is nothing like being able to ask an instructor a question and get a direct answer in the age of self-paced, instructorless online courses. While you cannot earn an accredited diploma from Springboard, you can receive certificates for completing certain programs.

Khan Academy has no real humans to interact with, but does provide free courses on the fundamentals of K-12 and early college. It’s also an easy to use and informative platform to take courses on that helps keep you motivated by giving you awards and by providing your usage statistics. There are no certificates and the courses on Khan Academy are unaccredited.

It is true that Khan Academy has more courses then Springboard, but that is not the whole story.

Springboard: One on one mentoring that keeps you on track with in-depth courses that fully teach the subject.
Khan Academy does not let just anyone teach their courses, but instead have a strict policy to only allow the best teachers to create one of their courses. Springboard is a learning platform that will allow any expert on a subject to create their own courses, as long as they pass a basic screening process. Khan Academy has better consistency and higher quality courses in general compared to Springboard because Khan Academy has fewer course creators who were screened heavily, while Springboard allows anyone to create courses.

While Khan Academy doesn't offer courses in all the categories we track, they do cover Information Technology, Programming & Coding, Business, and a few other things. While Springboard doesn't offer courses in all the categories we track, they do cover Information Technology, Programming & Coding, Creativity & Design, Data Science, and a few other things.

Springboard has a limited number of mentors on staff who are trained in a specific field. You wouldn’t want your one-on-one mentor to not know the subject you’re studying! This human resource constraint is what limits the number of courses and categories Springboard can cover, but it also means that they focus on fewer subjects and therefore are able to make very high quality courses.

Course Quality Review

Winner: Springboard
Springboard consistently has the higher quality courses.
Despite Khan Academy strictly vetting all of their course creators, in my opinion Springboard still has higher quality courses even though almost anyone can create courses for the platform.

Course Selection Review

Winner: Khan Academy
Khan Academy has more courses than Springboard.
Khan Academy has more courses than Springboard. Even though Khan Academy limits the number of course creators on their platform, while Springboard does not, Khan Academy manages to have more courses despite this!

Learning Platform Review

Winner: Tied
Both Springboard & Khan Academy did a good job teaching.
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. Both Khan Academy and Springboard provide amazing learning experiences with their platforms. They are both equally matched in these regards, so I am declaring this a tie.

User Experience Review

Winner: Tied
Both Khan Academy and Springboard have a good user experience.
When we review the platform, we are looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. Fortunately, both of these websites provide a great overall user experience. The user interfaces are logical enough, signing up is straight forward, support staff reply within a business day and billing is exactly what you would expect. Since neither platform sticks out from the other in these regards, this one is a tie in our books.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: Khan Academy
Khan Academy offers a better value for most learners.
This is a tough category to judge because value is so subjective and some platforms are better values in certain situations but not others. To that end, in our opinion Khan Academy seems to be the better value for most people, although there are some arguments for Springboard being a great value as well.

Overall Review

Winner: Springboard
Out of these two great services, Springboard is our choice.
When I write reviews, I like to clearly outline the better choice. In this case, we have two great services, but Springboard managed to take the victory. We recommend Springboard because: One on one mentoring that keeps you on track with in-depth courses that fully teach the subject.

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both Khan Academy and Springboard are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

Comparing Khan Academy vs Springboard clearly illustrates just how completely different the two of them are from each other.

Since I make a recommendation in these reviews, I try to choose the service that I feel has the greater mass appeal. While both of these elearning sites are great, Springboard is my recommendation, because they provide hands on tutoring and instructors that can lend a helping hand. Khan Academy might be the better choice for you if you’re studying K-12 material. Either way, these services are worth your consideration.
