Let me cut to to chase. If you’re looking to learn basic math, science, or English that target kindergarten through the first years of college, then Khan Academy should be your first go-to since the service is free. It can be a great tool to help you through K-12 or prepare for college entrance examinations, however Khan Academy does not provide high school diplomas or college credit or degrees. This means Khan Academy is best used as a supplement to homeschooling or other accredited schooling.

With Khan Academy out of the way, let me explain what LinkedIn Learning provides. LinkedIn Learning used to be, making it one of the oldest and largest elearning websites that have ever existed. There are some free courses to try and you can usually get a free trial, but the core service is a monthly subscription fee that gives you access to almost all the courses. LinkedIn Learning have courses on virtually every skill in their library of tens of thousands of courses they offer.

Khan Academy: From kindergarten to college level courses, Kahn Academy covers all the basics.
While you cannot deny that LinkedIn Learning has more courses then Khan Academy, they are both great learning services in their own right.

Khan Academy does not let just anyone teach their courses, but instead have a strict policy to only allow the best teachers to create one of their courses. LinkedIn Learning is a learning platform that will allow any expert on a subject to create their own courses, as long as they pass a basic screening process. Khan Academy has better consistency and higher quality courses in general compared to LinkedIn Learning because Khan Academy has fewer course creators who were screened heavily, while LinkedIn Learning allows anyone to create courses.

The LinkedIn Learning platform covers all the subjects which we write about here While Khan Academy doesn't offer courses in all the categories we track, they do cover Information Technology, Programming & Coding, Business, and a few other things.

LinkedIn Learning has a gigantic selection of courses which includes courses on just about everything. The number of topics covered on LinkedIn Learning far out number Khan Academy by over a thousand percent, so there is no competition here: LinkedIn Learning offers far more topics and subjects than Khan Academy.

Like I mentioned earlier, LinkedIn Learning used to be which makes them one of the oldest online e-learning platforms. This helps to keep their course number high, but it also means that there are many legacy and out-dated courses on LinkedIn Learning that may be of limited use today.

Khan Academy has one big advantage over LinkedIn Learning, and that is the fact that Khan Academy is completely free. LinkedIn Learning is useful to pick up a new skill, but Khan Academy is perfect for those studying core elementary, jr high, high school and college subjects.

Course Quality Review

Winner: LinkedIn Learning

Despite Khan Academy strictly vetting all of their course creators, in my opinion LinkedIn Learning still has higher quality courses even though almost anyone can create courses for the platform.

Course Selection Review

Winner: LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn Learning has more courses than Khan Academy.
LinkedIn Learning has more courses than Khan Academy. LinkedIn Learning has more courses because they let anyone create a course, while Khan Academy has fewer courses because they strictly vet their course authors.

Learning Platform Review

Winner: LinkedIn Learning
It was slightly easier to follow along & learn using LinkedIn Learning
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. While the Khan Academy platform is great, it is not quite as good as LinkedIn Learning in my experience. They are both great platform, but LinkedIn Learning wins.

User Experience Review

Winner: LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn Learning has a slightly better user experience.
When we review the platform, we are looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. As an end user, I found Khan Academy to be a good experience, but the user experience overall using LinkedIn Learning was better. I definitely recommend them both, but LinkedIn Learning is the winner in this category.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: Tied
Both services offer an incredible value for your money.
Value is a subjective thing, so reviewing the value proposition of a learning platform is difficult. In our opinion, both Khan Academy and LinkedIn Learning provide a great value for the money you spend. Both services have a great value proposition.

Overall Review

Winner: LinkedIn Learning
Out of these two great services, LinkedIn Learning is our choice.
When I write reviews, I like to clearly outline the better choice. In this case, we have two great services, but LinkedIn Learning managed to take the victory. We recommend LinkedIn Learning because: Formerly, this is one of the oldest & most used MOOCs, with a giant library of courses to choose from.

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both Khan Academy and LinkedIn Learning are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

There is no escaping the fact that “Khan Academy VS LinkedIn Learning” is an apples VS oranges comparison because they both serve different audiences and were created for entirely different reasons. For anyone looking for free K-12 courses, Khan Academy is far superior to LinkedIn Learning. However, for anyone just looking to pick up some new skills or improve existing skills, well then LinkedIn Learning is the clear-cut better choice of the two.

Since I am forced to make a recommendation here, I pick LinkedIn Learning as my recommendation, mainly because they give you access to a massive library of courses for a single affordable subscription. Of course, if K-12 or core college skills are what you need, then Khan Academy might be a better fit.
