Khan Academy is a free service full of free courses that are aimed at K-12 and early college. All Khan Academy courses focus on a fundamental subjects, so expect things like math, science, and language as opposed to courses on Adobe After Effects or other niche topics.

While you cannot deny that FutureLearn has more courses then Khan Academy, they are both great learning services in their own right.

Khan Academy: From kindergarten to college level courses, Kahn Academy covers all the basics. FutureLearn: Flexible enough to teach you small subjects, but versatile enough to get you a full college degree.

FutureLearn: Flexible enough to teach you small subjects, but versatile enough to get you a full college degree.
Khan Academy does not let just anyone teach their courses, but instead have a strict policy to only allow the best teachers to create one of their courses. FutureLearn is a learning platform that will allow any expert on a subject to create their own courses, as long as they pass a basic screening process. Khan Academy has better consistency and higher quality courses in general compared to FutureLearn because Khan Academy has fewer course creators who were screened heavily, while FutureLearn allows anyone to create courses.

Course Quality Review

Winner: FutureLearn
FutureLearn consistently has the higher quality courses.
Despite Khan Academy strictly vetting all of their course creators, in my opinion FutureLearn still has higher quality courses even though almost anyone can create courses for the platform.

Course Selection Review

Winner: FutureLearn
FutureLearn has more courses than Khan Academy.
FutureLearn has more courses than Khan Academy. FutureLearn has more courses because they let anyone create a course, while Khan Academy has fewer courses because they strictly vet their course authors.

Learning Platform Review

Winner: FutureLearn
It was slightly easier to follow along & learn using FutureLearn
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. While the Khan Academy platform is great, it is not quite as good as FutureLearn in my experience. They are both great platform, but FutureLearn wins.

User Experience Review

Winner: FutureLearn
FutureLearn has a slightly better user experience.
When we review the platform, we are looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. As an end user, I found Khan Academy to be a good experience, but the user experience overall using FutureLearn was better. I definitely recommend them both, but FutureLearn is the winner in this category.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: Khan Academy
Khan Academy offers a better value for most learners.
This is a tough category to judge because value is so subjective and some platforms are better values in certain situations but not others. To that end, in our opinion Khan Academy seems to be the better value for most people, although there are some arguments for FutureLearn being a great value as well.

Overall Review

Winner: Khan Academy
Out of these two great services, Khan Academy is our choice.
When I write reviews, I like to clearly outline the better choice. In this case, we have two great services, but Khan Academy managed to take the victory. We recommend Khan Academy because: From kindergarten to college level courses, Kahn Academy covers all the basics.

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both Khan Academy and FutureLearn are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

It was difficult to review Khan Academy VS FutureLearn only because I appreciate both platforms for different reasons. FutureLearn allows you to earn an accredited certificate or degree from a prestigious college, which is great and looks good on your resume or CV. While Khan Academy is the clear go-to choice for anyway looking for a supplemental learning platform while studying K-12 or early college material.

In conclusion, I love both services, but if I had to choose one it would be Khan Academy, since it’s completely free and a great resource for children and young adults. FutureLearn is still amazing to use with a much larger selection of courses relevant to me. That is why I personally use FutureLearn more than Khan Academy, since I have no need for fundamental K-12 courses at this stage in my life.

Anyway, thanks for reading this comparison!. Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or concerns and most importantly of all: happy learning!
