Khan Academy VS ed2go Comparison

Today I am comparing ed2go VS Khan Academy which is an apples vs oranges comparison of online learning platforms since they are both so different from each other. ed2go helps students earn high school and college diplomas directly from their computers while Khan Academy provides free unaccredited courses that are aimed at kindergarten through college.

In today’s review, I am comparing ed2go VS Khan Academy so to highlight their strengths and weaknesses, especially when directly compared. As always, I’ll begin by examining the features and policies of both services, move onto the subject material that each service covers, and conclude by reviewing each aspect of these platforms.

Khan Academy is an always free learning platform, but one best used as a supplement to accredited online learning provider such as ed2go. Using Khan Academy is quick and easy, registration is free and you are provided with usage metrics, little incentives and awards. Enrolling in new courses in Khan Academy is just a few clicks of the mouse and the course interface is nice and standard enough, but not as polished or as refined as ed2go.

ed2go works with schools across the United States to provide and instruct their courses. When you’re enrolling for courses you usually have the option to select which school you would like to take the class from. Khan Academy has some features that ed2go doesn’t have, but that’s because ed2go has dozens of schools providing courses while Khan Academy has the advantage of providing both the platform and the courses. This is why Khan Academy is able to give you usage metrics to encourage or motivate you that are missing from ed2go.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses
It is true that ed2go has more courses then Khan Academy, but that is not the whole story.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses Khan Academy: From kindergarten to college level courses, Kahn Academy covers all the basics.

Khan Academy: From kindergarten to college level courses, Kahn Academy covers all the basics.
ed2go does not let just anyone teach their courses, but instead have a strict policy to only allow the best teachers to create one of their courses. Khan Academy is very strict about who can teach their courses, only allowing the best teachers to develop and publish courses. Both ed2go and Khan Academy have similiar quality courses, since they both only allow the most qualified teachers to create courses.

The ed2go platform covers all the subjects which we write about here While Khan Academy doesn't offer courses in all the categories we track, they do cover Information Technology, Programming & Coding, Business, and a few other things.

ed2go offers a large number of courses on far more subjects compared to the limited number of focused courses provided by Khan Academy. That is because Khan Academy is laser focused on the core subjects Math, Science, Language, and Humanities for kindergarten through college. Outside of a few computing classes, Khan Academy sticks to providing free courses on K-12 material, sadly with no accreditation. However, this makes Khan Academy a great supplement to homeschooling or an accredited platform such as ed2go.

Speaking of ed2go, since they partner with schools and universities across the U.S. to provide high school and college accredited degrees and diplomas, this means ed2go offers the same variety of courses you would expect from any accredited school or college.

Course Quality Review

Winner: ed2go
ed2go consistently has the higher quality courses.
In my opinion, while both services offer high quality courses, the victor has to be ed2go because they consistently have higher quality courses when compared to Khan Academy. While both services do screen their course creators, ed2go managed to pull off a victory here due to the consistent high quality nature of their courses.

Course Selection Review

Winner: ed2go
ed2go has more courses than Khan Academy.
ed2go has more courses than Khan Academy. Both services do screen their course creators, but ed2go has a larger selection of courses to choose from.

Learning Platform Review

Winner: ed2go
It was slightly easier to follow along & learn using ed2go
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. I really like the Khan Academy platform, but not as much as the learning experience provided by ed2go. I do think both platforms are great ways to learn, but I found ed2go better suited towards teaching me effectively.

User Experience Review

Winner: Tied
Both ed2go and Khan Academy have a good user experience.
When we review the platform, we are looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. Fortunately, both of these websites provide a great overall user experience. The user interfaces are logical enough, signing up is straight forward, support staff reply within a business day and billing is exactly what you would expect. Since neither platform sticks out from the other in these regards, this one is a tie in our books.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: Khan Academy
Khan Academy has the better value proposition for most people.
This section is hard to review because value is subjective and some platforms are better values in certain situations but not in others. However, when comparing ed2go VS Khan Academy, we find Khan Academy to be the better value for most people. We do recommend ed2go as well though.

Overall Review

Winner: ed2go
Out of these two great services, ed2go is our choice.
When I write reviews, I like to clearly outline the better choice. In this case, we have two great services, but ed2go managed to take the victory. We recommend ed2go because: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both ed2go and Khan Academy are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

It’s not really fair to compare ed2go vs Khan Academy since the former service allows you to get an accredited high school diploma or college degree while the later service is more of a free supplement for those studying K-12 and early college material.

Because I do force myself to make a recommendation in each review, I try to award the service that I feel has the greater chance of helping people learn. While both of these elearning sites are fantastic resources, ed2go is my recommendation, because the service is there to help anyone get their high school diploma and/or college degrees from the comfort of their own homes. Khan Academy is great, and if you just want to brush up on something and they happen to have a course, take it. It’s free!

Hopefully my comparison review helped you in some way. Please tell me about your experiences in the comments below. As always, thanks for reading and happy learning!
