edX has partnered up with some of the most prestigious universities in the world to provide college courses for free. Of course, the free versions do not come with accreditation, so it’s only free if you there to learn the skill and don’t care about building your resume or earning a degree. edX offers professional certificates as well a microdegrees and even full master’s degree programs for a reasonable tuition. If you’re auditing a course for free and want a certificate or to earn college credits for completing the course you can easily purchase an upgrade (usually even mid-course.)

ed2go is similar to edX in that they have partnered with schools across the United States to provide and instruct their courses. When you’re enrolling for courses you usually have the option to select which school you would like to take the class from. edX has partnered with some Ivy League schools such as Harvard and MIT that you won’t find on ed2go, but ed2go has more local options. For instance, one of my local community college offers some programs through ed2go that are not available on edX.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses
While you cannot deny that edX has more courses then ed2go, they are both great learning services in their own right.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses edX: free college courses that can easily be upgraded for college credit, certificates, or degrees

edX: free college courses that can easily be upgraded for college credit, certificates, or degrees
ed2go does not let just anyone teach their courses, but instead have a strict policy to only allow the best teachers to create one of their courses. edX is very strict about who can teach their courses, only allowing the best teachers to develop and publish courses. Both ed2go and edX have similiar quality courses, since they both only allow the most qualified teachers to create courses.

Course Quality Review

Winner: Tied
edX and ed2go have similiar quality courses.
Both edX and ed2go have high quality courses, but neither of them stand-out against each other in these regards. Rest assured, choosing either service means high quality courses in general.

Course Selection Review

Winner: edX
edX has more courses than ed2go.
edX has more courses than ed2go. Both services do screen their course creators, but edX has a larger selection of courses to choose from.

Learning Platform Review

Winner: Tied
Both edX & ed2go did a good job teaching.
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. Both ed2go and edX provide amazing learning experiences with their platforms. They are both equally matched in these regards, so I am declaring this a tie.

User Experience Review

Winner: edX
edX has a slightly better user experience.
When we review the platform, we are looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. As an end user, I found ed2go to be a good experience, but the user experience overall using edX was better. I definitely recommend them both, but edX is the winner in this category.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: ed2go
ed2go offers a better value for most learners.
This is a tough category to judge because value is so subjective and some platforms are better values in certain situations but not others. To that end, in our opinion ed2go seems to be the better value for most people, although there are some arguments for edX being a great value as well.

Overall Review

Winner: Tied
Out of these two great services, the one you choose depends specifically on your needs.
When I write reviews, I like to clearly outline the better choice. However, in this case, the better choice depends on what you are trying to achieve.. We recommend ed2go because: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses We recommend edX because: free college courses that can easily be upgraded for college credit, certificates, or degrees

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both ed2go and edX are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

ed2go allows you to get an accredited high school diploma or college degree while the edX is more of a direct replacement for college.

These two services are different enough that it is hard to directly compare them. At the end of the day, both of these services are really good for their target audience and I can’t easily recommend one over the other. However, edX does allow you to audit almost all their courses for free so I recommend testing the service out by enrolling in a course you’re interested in. ed2go doesn’t provide a free trial, which is something I hope they fix in the future.

Hopefully my comparison review helped you in some way. Please tell me about your experiences in the comments below. As always, thanks for reading and happy learning!
