ed2go VS Udemy Comparison

In this article I am comparing and contrasting ed2go VS Udemy. These are both valuable elearning platforms, but as you probably already know, they’re quite different and serve different purposes. ed2go is all about bringing high school and college classes directly to students online while Udemy’s main selling point is that they provide a massive library of courses to choose from.

In today’s review, I am comparing Udemy VS ed2go so that you can easily figure out which one is better suited for your needs. I will start out by pitting the features and policies of both services against each other. Next, I will examine what subjects are offered by each service and I’ll finish by giving a detailed review and score for quality, selection, and value so that you can easily contrast these two services against each other.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses
While you cannot deny that Udemy has more courses then ed2go, they are both great learning services in their own right.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses Udemy: Overall course selection.

Udemy: Overall course selection.
ed2go does not let just anyone teach their courses, but instead have a strict policy to only allow the best teachers to create one of their courses. Udemy is a learning platform that will allow any expert on a subject to create their own courses, as long as they pass a basic screening process. ed2go has better consistency and higher quality courses in general compared to Udemy because ed2go has fewer course creators who were screened heavily, while Udemy allows anyone to create courses.

Both platforms cover all the subjects which we write about here LearnOnline.shop.

However, if we examine subjects that I don’t explicitly cover on this website (yet) such as learning to speak a different language or studying the law, Udemy covers those subjects and a lot more. In fact, Udemy has very niche and small audience courses, things that only a few thousand students may be interested in. This includes things like creating a WordPress theme, how to get more followers on social media and other micro-subjects.

Remember, ed2go content is primarily high school and college courses, so they stick to the beaten path of the subjects and types of courses you would expect. Udemy, by contrast, is concerned with providing a gigantic selection of courses, which means the course creators have to get creative in order to not repeat the same subjects over and over again.

Course Quality Review

Winner: ed2go
ed2go consistently has the higher quality courses.
In my opinion, while both services offer high quality courses, the victor has to be ed2go because they consistently have higher quality courses when compared to Udemy. Undoubtedly the fact that ed2go has heavily screened and vetted course creators, while Udemy allows anyone to make their own courses has a lot to do with the difference in quality.

Course Selection Review

Winner: Udemy
Udemy has more courses than ed2go.
Udemy has more courses than ed2go. Udemy has more courses because they let anyone create a course, while ed2go has fewer courses because they strictly vet their course authors.

Learning Platform Review

Winner: ed2go
It was slightly easier to follow along & learn using ed2go
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. I really like the Udemy platform, but not as much as the learning experience provided by ed2go. I do think both platforms are great ways to learn, but I found ed2go better suited towards teaching me effectively.

User Experience Review

Winner: Udemy
Udemy has a slightly better user experience.
When we review the platform, we are looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. As an end user, I found ed2go to be a good experience, but the user experience overall using Udemy was better. I definitely recommend them both, but Udemy is the winner in this category.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: Udemy
Udemy has the better value proposition for most people.
This section is hard to review because value is subjective and some platforms are better values in certain situations but not in others. However, when comparing ed2go VS Udemy, we find Udemy to be the better value for most people. We do recommend ed2go as well though.

Overall Review

Winner: Udemy
Out of these two great services, Udemy is our choice.
When I write reviews, I like to clearly outline the better choice. In this case, we have two great services, but Udemy managed to take the victory. We recommend Udemy because: Overall course selection.

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both ed2go and Udemy are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

Neither service is perfect for everybody, but they both have mass appeal. Udemy simply offers courses on everything you can think of, while most people could benefit from an accredited college course from ed2go.

Both ed2go and Udemy provide a great service. If I had to pick one service out of the two, I’d say that Udemy is more universally appealing since they have a massive library of courses which means there is content there for almost everyone. For some learners, especially those looking for accredited high school or college courses, ed2go is clearly the better fit.

I hope this comparison review has helped you, but if you have any questions please leave a comment or reach out via email. Thanks for reading and happy learning!
