ed2go VS Skillshare Comparison

ed2go VS Skillshare is an apples to oranges comparison. Sure, they’re both online learning platforms that offer courses, but the similarities don’t extend much further than that. ed2go focuses squarely on remote high school & college courses while Skillshare is basically the Netflix of e-learning.

In this article, I am going to compare ed2go VS Skillshare side-by-side so that you can clearly find out which one better fits your needs. I’ll start with a comparison of features, move onto a deep dive into the subjects and categories each service covers and finish up by rating each service on various criteria against each other.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses
While you cannot deny that Skillshare has more courses then ed2go, they are both great learning services in their own right.

ed2go: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses Skillshare: One subscription fee gives you access to one of the largest online learning course libraries, with a range of subjects at your fingertips.

Skillshare: One subscription fee gives you access to one of the largest online learning course libraries, with a range of subjects at your fingertips.
ed2go does not let just anyone teach their courses, but instead have a strict policy to only allow the best teachers to create one of their courses. Skillshare is a learning platform that will allow any expert on a subject to create their own courses, as long as they pass a basic screening process. ed2go has better consistency and higher quality courses in general compared to Skillshare because ed2go has fewer course creators who were screened heavily, while Skillshare allows anyone to create courses.

Both platforms cover all the subjects which we write about here LearnOnline.shop.

Even though both services cover the basics of what I keep track of, it should be noted that Skillshare has far more subjects and course categories because they have such a high volume of courses.

I mentioned that Skillshare was like the Netflix of e-learning platforms, which means that course creators on the platform are trying to find under-served topics to create courses for. While ed2go focuses on high school and college courses, this also limits the scope of what topics they cover to standard career paths. This means you will find all of ed2go’s topics covered by Skillshare, but you won’t find everything on ed2go that you can find on Skillshare.

The big advantages of ed2go over Skillshare is that ed2go offers accredited certificates and degrees, while Skillshare is only good for directly learning the skill (not for padding a resume or CV.)

Course Quality Review

Winner: ed2go
ed2go consistently has the higher quality courses.
In my opinion, while both services offer high quality courses, the victor has to be ed2go because they consistently have higher quality courses when compared to Skillshare. Undoubtedly the fact that ed2go has heavily screened and vetted course creators, while Skillshare allows anyone to make their own courses has a lot to do with the difference in quality.

Course Selection Review

Winner: Skillshare
Skillshare has more courses than ed2go.
Skillshare has more courses than ed2go. Skillshare has more courses because they let anyone create a course, while ed2go has fewer courses because they strictly vet their course authors.

Learning Platform Review

Winner: ed2go
It was slightly easier to follow along & learn using ed2go
When I talk about platforms, I am talking about the ways that the site teaches you, like video tutorials, interactive projects and hands-on testing, as well as awarding certificates. I really like the Skillshare platform, but not as much as the learning experience provided by ed2go. I do think both platforms are great ways to learn, but I found ed2go better suited towards teaching me effectively.

User Experience Review

Winner: Skillshare
Skillshare has a slightly better user experience.
When we review the platform, we are looking at the learning angles of the experience, but for the User Experience Review we look at everything else, including the sign-up process, the wait-times, the quality of courses, support, emails, billing and more. As an end user, I found ed2go to be a good experience, but the user experience overall using Skillshare was better. I definitely recommend them both, but Skillshare is the winner in this category.

Value Proposition Review

Winner: Skillshare
Skillshare has the better value proposition for most people.
This section is hard to review because value is subjective and some platforms are better values in certain situations but not in others. However, when comparing ed2go VS Skillshare, we find Skillshare to be the better value for most people. We do recommend ed2go as well though.

Overall Review

Winner: Tied
Out of these two great services, the one you choose depends specifically on your needs.
When I write reviews, I like to clearly outline the better choice. However, in this case, the better choice depends on what you are trying to achieve.. We recommend ed2go because: Providing high school & college degrees, accredited online courses We recommend Skillshare because: One subscription fee gives you access to one of the largest online learning course libraries, with a range of subjects at your fingertips.

Pros & Cons of Each Service

Both ed2go and Skillshare are amazing learning services and platforms, but they each have their PROs and CONs. In this section, I have outlined PROs and CONs for both services, specifically with how they compare to each other.

Final Thoughts

Between ed2go VS Skillshare, the choice should really come down to this: are you just interested in learning a skill or are you interested in building a career and getting a degree? If you’re just interested in learning a skill, then Skillshare lives up to it’s name, giving you access to thousands of courses for one low subscription price. On the otherhand, if you’re trying to earn a degree, Skillshare isn’t going to help while ed2go has you covered.

For most people, Skillshare is our recommendation, since they offer a single subscription fee to access over ten thousand courses. For those with a less casual need for online education, ed2go is probably a better fit. I use both platforms and find that they serve different purposes.

I hope this comparison review has helped you, but if you have any questions please leave a comment or reach out via email. Thanks for reading and happy learning!
